Review of Alfresco ECM Content Services

  • January 30, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Alfresco ECM Content Services has been a very popular Enterprise Content Management (ECM) tool having both Open source and Enterprise versions. The open source version popularly called as Alfresco Community version has been there for more than 10 years and has a huge active community which answers the questions, contributes to the Alfresco ECM plugin repository and share their blogs with details on enhancements and customizations. Alfresco Content Services normally referred to the Enterprise version with Alfresco support has been there since quiet sometime and been popular as well. Alfresco Content Services has wide variety of customers across the industry. Alfresco Content services is a very good ECM tool that includes Document management and Web content managment features. Its a very scalable product that is been tested and recommended by a large community. Alfresco is also slowly releasing the PAAS version with the latest versions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Alfresco is a very popular product and has very less demerits. One important demerit of Alfresco Content Services is initial learning curve, the user neeed to undergo initial training to start using Alfresco Content Services and it might be little difficult to get started without any training unless the user is tech savvy. Another demerit of Alfresco Content Services has been its Alfresco Share User Interface, though Alfresco has introduced Alfresco Digital workspace based on Angular UI but that needs additional learning and training to support. Unlike many other ECM tool, Alfresco support needs additional expertise and experience.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alfresco Content Services is used to solve any Document Management related pain areas for any organization. As it also has the ECM features, It is a very popular tool for all ECM implementations and Record Management implementations.

What do you like best about the product?
The way that you manage multiple paths to store images. I like the scalability itself.
What do you dislike about the product?
In the log-in process, many times, I have been finding logging issues.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sort images for all brands in size, country, and many other categorizations. You must use incognito mode on the browser to bypass the login problem.

An open source ECM with lots of features.

  • June 21, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Alfresco is one of the few OpenSource ECMs available out in the market.
The community edition is free with basic features but for enterprise level usage license cost is involved. Alfresco is robust, scalable, with a lot of scope for integration and custom development as per the business need.
UI is clean and users are easy to train also, additional UI enabler tools can be integrated with Alfresco to enhance the UI capabilities.
Being web based, it's easy to access the ECM from anywhere, any browser.
What do you dislike about the product?
Though alfresco is OpenSource, the extended enterprise level features are licensed at a cost.
UI is clean, but requires users to scroll up and down through the entire webpage to get information about the documents - there is a lot of scope for addition of UI features.
Document import is a little slow.
The organisation will strictly need a skilled recource to help maintain the sotware.
Performance is also slower as compared to other ECMs.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alfresco is cost effective solution to our business need of a central repository for document storage and access.
It's easy to be used by the end users.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you would like to have a ECM for basic usage and light weight implementation then alfresco is a good choice.
Support is excellent.

Unified and Seemless Enterprise Content Management System

  • December 21, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I very much appreciate the fact that it's considerably cheaper than Microsoft Sharepoint. I also enjoy the ability that you are able to access the cntent outside the web as well as the collaborative web content. The integration across various tools and applications such as Moodle and the platform integrates well with that and while the UI is aethestically unpleasant it is easy to navigate. The cutstom APIs are also helpful which to customize. The auditing feauture is also really helpfu and the plaform is overall able to handle a large number of documents through the system which helps our team a lot especially since it doesn't take up a lot of server capacity. The 24/7 customer service options are helpful althought we haven't had the need to use it.The live on demnad training courses and webinars are tailored to vairiety of users as developers and end users. We haven't expereinced any buges in the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
The interface of the platform is not user-friendly and has archaic features that are difficult to navigate. The platform doesn't have the ability to easily integrate with social networking platforms. Documentation can be challenging because as there are multiple updates to the platform (albeit a very good thing) they often don't come with the updated documentation is a timely manner. The sharper learning curve could make it difficult for those individuals within the organization that are not receptive to change or technologically savy.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Enterprise Content Management that can be stored in the cloud. This has helped our organization become more organized and in line with data and security protocols.

Alfresco - Document Solutions

  • September 26, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
This software is a solution to going paperless (if you have not already). It allows multiple users to access documents, and folders to be created to easily organize documents according to your needs. You can also send hyperlinks to others that will take them straight to the document in question.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's slow to load documents, and requires files to be renamed if you wish to search by file name.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alfresco Content Services allows cross-collaboration between departments. In higher education, departments are often siloed and this software helps institutions function as more of an ecosystem rather than individualized departments.

Excellent document repository solution, but a heavy lift

  • April 04, 2019
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's very extensible and capable, but it's a mighty ship. It requires a knowledgeable team to maintain and build upon. It's very powerful and robust, especially it's permission schemes and flexibility.
What do you dislike about the product?
Our version is not mobile friendly, and it would be good if it had the ability to embed some content on a website. In a time when many apps are turning to a simpler, self-serve model for IT, Alfresco still has UX quirks that require training and maintenance to wrangle. For instance, it's possible to replace a PDF with a PowerPoint and effectively break the link to the document, without warning the used they are replacing one file type with another.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Content repository, permissions and content delivery. It has given our users to manage more of the content on their own.

  • March 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great visual editor to manage our complex workflows in our app.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not immediately self-evident UI and needs a bit of time to get used to creating the workflows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Orchestrating our complex workflows.

Decent for workflow tracking

  • February 21, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ability to visually map out workflows and the drag and drop feature
What do you dislike about the product?
Debugging multiple calls in a rest task is not helpful enough. It only tells you the failure of the rest task itself not the individual calls the task is making
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Initiating, tracking and monitoring hundreds or thousands of workflow instances at once.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider if Alfresco is right for you if concurrency is a priority
